CATEGORY 1
 

A category 1 water damage is the result of a water loss originating from a sanitary source and poses no substantial risk from dermal, ingestion, or inhalation exposure. Nevertheless, a category 1 will not remain clean after it comes into contact with contaminated materials and will become category 2 or 3 if not remediated in time.

CATEGORY 2
 

A category 2 water damage is the result of a water loss originating from dishwashers, rain, etc... Containing potentially unsafe levels of microorganisms or nutrients for microorganisms, as well as other organic or inorganic matter (chemical or biological). Category 2 water losses contain significant contamination and have the potential to cause discomfort or sickness if contacted or consumed by humans.

CATEGORY 3

​

Category 3 water losses include rising water, silt, sewage, etc... This type of water loss is grossly contaminated and may contain pathogenic, toxigenic or other harmful agents. Category 3 water losses may contain silt, organic matter, pesticides, heavy metals, regulated materials or toxic organic substances).

CATEGORY 1 & 2 DRYING PROCEDURE:

• Extract water

• Remove and dispose of damaged pad

• Install drying equipment

• Apply disinfectant

• Restoring to pre-loss condition

CATEGORY 3 DRYING PROCEDURE:

​

• Apply initial disinfectant

• Extract sewage

• Remove and dispose of carpet, pad, laminate floor, etc...

• Steam clean floor

• Apply final disinfectant

• Install drying equipment and air scrubbers

• Restoring to pre-loss condition
